Dr. Paul Morton was born and raised on the Big Island and is a Kea'au High School graduate. He earned his Bachelor's of Science, double-majoring in Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. He found his passion for medicine while providing emergency medical services at Miami Township Fire-Rescue.
Dr. Morton returned to Hawai'i to obtain his medical degree from University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine. During medical school he spent half of his third-year clinical rotations on the Big Island as part of the longitudinal program. He pursued his Orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Luke's University and Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He served as Chief Orthopedic resident during his final year.
Dr. Morton obtained his ACGME-accredited fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction at the University of Chicago and through an AO Trauma fellowship at Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany. His research has been presented in multiple national meetings including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
Dr. Morton's focus is on joint replacement, joint preservation, and salvage procedures. He has an interest in minimally invasive approaches, including the Direct Anterior approach. He is well-versed in modern joint replacement techniques including partial knee replacements and robotic-assisted joint replacements. He has extensive training in complex revisions of failed joint replacements, including megaprosthesis, infections, arthrofibrosis, and periprosthetic fractures.
His philosophy is that everyone deserves a patient-centered and individualized approach with both non-operative and operative treatments available. He will provide you with the best that modern orthopaedics offers with rapid-recovery techniques, advanced analgesia, and cosmetic wound closure. Whether your problem stems from a sports injury or a complex trauma, his experience with challenging cases provides him with the toolkit to provide the best possible care.
Dr. Morton can be seen at the Island Orthopaedics Waialae office, Queen's Medical Center West, or North Hawai'i Community Hospital. He has interests in total joint replacements, sports injuries, arthroscopy, trauma, and general orthopaedics. In addition, he provides orthopaedic trauma coverage to North Hawai’i Community Hospital, Kuakini Hospital, and The Queen’s Medical Center. He is a clinical instructor for the orthopaedic surgery residency, providing lectures and training for orthopaedic residents.
In his spare time, Dr. Morton enjoys covering mixed martial events and is a regular contributing writer for Jiu-jitsu Magazine. He enjoys Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, travel, and hiking.
